Leaders Week 2 – General Sir Ian Hamilton with Peter Hart

GWG Winter Course - Leaders of the First World War   In this course, we will examine a diverse, global array of battlefield leaders . We'll look at successes, failures and reputations in the wake of a conflict on a scale none of them were trained to fight.   For those unable to commit to the full ten weeks, we are making individual classes available for you to pick and choose which you attend. Lectures take place on Sunday afternoons and constitute a presentation followed by a lively discussion/debate.   Week Two - General Sir Ian Hamilton with Peter Hart:   'From Hero to Zero. (In a year)'   Ian Hamilton was regarded by some as Britain's best general in August 1914. A year later, his reputation was in ruins and his career was over. Why? Gallipoli. Was he culpable for this humiliating campaign, or was he a scapegoat?   This lecture will take place on Sunday 14th January 2024 at 16:00UK.
