The Great War Group is delighted to announce a partnership with Peter Hart Battlefield Tours that will see our members receive early-bird booking privileges and a discount; beginning with two tours to Gallipoli next year in May and September.
PHBT are unique in offering tours of eight days which include the travel days to and from Istanbul, which means six full days on the battlefield. This is on occasion extended to nine or even ten days. We are one of the few to offer full board which includes breakfast and evening meal as well as a lunch brought out to the battlefield. Our plans are to again place ourselves in the heart of the battlefield at the Hotel Kum. In acknowledging the challenges that Covid19 will no doubt continue to present; this keeps the group together in one hotel and as can be seen from the website below, provides leisure activities as well as access to a beach for relaxation. In addition to excellent facilities, this also provides a convivial atmosphere for those that wish to socialise in the evenings.
All tours will be led by Peter Hart accompanied by one of the other members of PHBT acting as administrator and coordinator for the group. Our Turkish guide, one of the most highly regarded in the region, will also travel with us daily. As many of you will know, Peter was the oral historian at the Imperial War Museum in London for almost 40 years and is the author of a number of books on the Great War as well as other conflicts. It is fair to say that he is obsessed with Gallipoli and his knowledge and enthusiasm is delivered in his own inimitable style.
